There is little to gain but quite a lot to lose. That was the theme today for both practice sessions at Knockhill as the weather closed in around the undulating circuit . The set & windy conditions necessitated a switch to full wets and I went out on track just before the 10-minute mark of the 40-minute session in FP1.
I keep saying it, but the Carrera GT3 Cup cars are just unrivalled for their driver involvement and purity. It’s a special experience being behind the wheel of one and I was enjoying being out there despite the tricky conditions.
My first timed lap was 59 seconds as I got accustomed to the track conditions but after a few more laps, the times were consistently sitting around the high 55s & low 56s. I finished the session third in the ProAm1 class and 15th overall. These times continued into the afternoon session for FP2, which was also quite damp and slippery.
We were keen to set a strong time and with five minutes remain in in the session I was running in first place in class with a time of 55.8-seconds. The rain had stopped and the mist had lifted just as the session began and by the time FP2 was nearing its end, a dry line had developed and the majority of the field switched back to slicks.
We were happy with the pace in the wet and decided not to take the opportunity of a final on slicks on the drying asphalt. . The car feels really good and finely balanced therefore we’re feeling confident ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying session. Make sure you keep updated on the weekend’s proceedings @mccullagh33 or @carrercupgb on twitter. Until tomorrow…
